Taxonomy
Ostrea heermani was named by Conrad (1855). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Ostrea heermanni by Hanna (1926) and Loel and Corey (1932); it was synonymized subjectively with Ostrea haitensis vespertina by Stewart (1930); it was recombined as Pycnodonte (Pycnodonte) heermanni by Moore (1987); it was recombined as Pycnodonte heermanni by Powell (2008) and Hendy (2020).
