Venus fluctifraga was named by Sowerby (1853). It is extant.

It was recombined as Chione (Chionista) fluctifraga by Coan et al. (2000); it was recombined as Chionista fluctifraga by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012) and Hendy (2021).
