Venus lamellifera was named by Conrad (1837). It is extant.

It was recombined as Venerupis lamellifera by Conrad (1837); it was recombined as Rupellaria lamellifera by Arnold (1903); it was recombined as Petricola lamellifera by Moody (1916); it was recombined as Irus lamellifera by Grant and Gale (1931) and Soper and Grant (1932); it was recombined as Irus lamellifer by Woodring and Bramlette (1950) and Valentine (1957); it was recombined as Irusella lamellifera by Hertlein and Grant (1972), Coan et al. (2000) and Hendy (2021).
