Tellina secta was named by Conrad (1837). It is extant.

It was recombined as Macoma secta by Ashley (1895) and Valentine (1956); it was recombined as Macoma (Rexithaerus) secta by Coan et al. (2000) and Moore (2003); it was recombined as Rexithaerus secta by Hendy (2021).
