Cardium schencki was named by Wiedey (1928). Its type specimen is USNM 165598, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Trachycardium schencki by Dickinson and Lowe (1966); it was recombined as Trachycardium (Trachycardium) schencki by Moore (2003).
