Taxonomy
Mactra montereyana was named by Arnold (1908). Its type specimen is USNM 165463, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Love Creek, Felton, which is in a Langhian/Serravallian coastal mudstone/siltstone in the Monterey Formation of California.
It was recombined as Mactromeris montereyana by Moore (2003).
