Spisula muliniaformis was named by Wagner and Schilling (1923) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene; California.]. Its type specimen is UCCIP 11423, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Univ. Cal. Loc. 3219 - Pleito Fm, which is in an Oligocene coastal sandstone/sandstone in the Pleito Formation of California.
It was recombined as Mactromeris muliniaformis by Moore (2003).
