Nanogyra was named by Beurlen (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath K Berr-u Sepkoski's reference number: 93,663]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ostreidae by Ronchetti (1970); to Exogyrinae by Vokes (1980); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nanogyrini by Bouchet et al. (2010).
