Neoinoceramus was named by Ihering (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l T Ol-u].

It was assigned to Inoceramidae by Vokes (1980); to Limidae by Parma et al. (1990); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
