Echinalosia wassi was named by Briggs (1998). Its type specimen is UQ F75264, a valve (Ventral valve external mold), and it is a mold. Its type locality is UNE L675, Mudgee-Rylstone Road, Lue Railway Station, which is in a Roadian marine siltstone in Australia.
