Lima gigantea was named by Gray (1825) [DISTRIBUTION: Alaska-Baja California, Mexico (Recent); western North America (Miocene-Pleistocene). HISTORY: Type species of Crassadoma by original designation [Coan et al. 2000].]. It is extant.
It was recombined as Hinnites giganteus by Ashley (1895), Valentine (1957) and Moore (1984); it was recombined as Pecten (Hinnites) giganteus by Arnold (1903), Arnold (1906) and Willett (1937); it was misspelled as Crassadoma giganteus by Powell and Stevens (2000); it was recombined as Crassadoma gigantea by Waller (1993), Coan et al. (2000) and Hendy (2021).
