Xenodiscus was named by Waagen (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u Tr Indu-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1066]. It is the type genus of Xenodiscidae, Xenodiscaceae.
It was assigned to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Xenodiscidae by Leonova (2002), Korn (2006), Zhou (2017) and Korn and Hairapetian (2021).
