Taxonomy
Lecanites discus was named by Arthaber (1908). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kcira, which is in a Spathian marine limestone in the Han-Bulog Formation of Albania. It is the type species of Hemilecanites.

It was recombined as Proavites discus by Diener (1915); it was recombined as Hemilecanites discus by Spath (1934), Kummel (1969), Guo (1982) and Ehiro et al. (2016).
