Taxonomy
Pleuronectites was named by Schlotheim (1820) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr l Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 1227]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pectinidae by Hayami (1975), Newell and Boyd (1995) and Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
