Youngiellacea was named by Kellett (1933). Its type is Youngiella.

It was corrected as Youngielloidea by Liebau (2005), Yuan and Crasquin-Soleau (2007) and Chitnarin (2012).

It was assigned to Eridostracina by Liebau (2005); to Beyrichicopina by Benson et al. (1961) and Yuan and Crasquin-Soleau (2007); and to Kloedenellocopina by Chitnarin (2012).
