Owenites koeneni

Taxonomy

Owenites koeneni was named by Hyatt and Smith (1905). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Union Wash, Meekoceras bed, Inyo Range, which is in a Smithian slope limestone in the Union Wash Formation of California. It is the type species of Owenites.

Owenites costatus was named by Chao (1959).

It was synonymized subjectively with Owenites koeneni by Brayard and Bucher (2008), Brühwiler and Bucher (2012), Brayard et al. (2013) and Shigeta and Nguyen (2014).
Owenites pakungensis was named by Chao (1959).

It was synonymized subjectively with Owenites koeneni by Shevyrev (1990), Brayard and Bucher (2008), Brühwiler and Bucher (2012), Brayard et al. (2013) and Shigeta and Nguyen (2014).
Pseudowenites oxynotus was named by Chao (1959).

It was synonymized subjectively with Owenites koeneni by Shevyrev (1990), Brayard and Bucher (2008), Brühwiler and Bucher (2012), Brayard et al. (2013) and Shigeta and Nguyen (2014).
Kingites shimizui was named by Sakagami (1955).

It was recombined as Owenites shimizui by Kummel and Sakagami (1960); it was synonymized subjectively with Owenites koeneni by Shevyrev (1990), Brayard and Bucher (2008), Brühwiler and Bucher (2012), Brayard et al. (2013) and Shigeta and Nguyen (2014).
Owenites carinatus was named by Shevyrev (1968).
