Taxonomy
Pecten (Leptopecten) praevalidus was named by Jordan and Hertlein (1926). Its type specimen is CAS 2101, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is C.A.S. Loc. 945, Turtle Bay, which is in a Pliocene marine sandstone in Mexico.

It was recombined as Pecten praevalidus by Jordan and Hertlein (1926); it was recombined as Antipecten praevalidus by Moore (1984) and Hall (2002).
