Taxonomy
Owenites simplex was named by Welter (1922). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bahati, dark red limestone blocks, which is in a Smithian carbonate limestone in Indonesia.

It was recombined as Parowenites simplex by Spath (1934).
