Taxonomy
Aspenites layeriformis was named by Welter (1922). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Noil Boewan, Niki Niki (Owenites beds), which is in a Smithian marine horizon in Indonesia.

It was recombined as Pseudaspenites layeriformis by Spath (1934), Brayard and Bucher (2008), Brühwiler et al. (2012), Brühwiler and Bucher (2012) and Đaković et al. (2022).
