Taxonomy
Plesiobalaenoptera quarantellii was named by Bisconti (2010). Its type specimen is MPST 240505, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Stirone River, which is in a Tortonian deep-water claystone in Italy.
