Taxonomy
Pterinopecten was named by Hall (1883) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl C Tour Sepkoski's reference number: 1058,1066]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Aviculopecten (Pterinopecten) by Hall (1884).

It was assigned to Aviculopecten by Hall (1884); to Pectinacea by Amler (1992); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterinopectinidae by Vokes (1980) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
