Hippopotamus afarensis
Taxonomy
Trilobophorus afarensis was named by Geze (1985). Its type specimen is AL 74-20, a partial skull (calvarium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hadar - SH General, which is in a Piacenzian fluvial-lacustrine horizon in the Hadar Formation of Ethiopia. It is the type species of Trilobophorus.
It was recombined as Hippopotamus afarensis by Weston and Boisserie (2010).
