Serripecten was named by Marwick (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Plio-l Sepkoski's reference number: 728].

It was assigned to Pectinidae by Beu et al. (1990) and Maxwell (1992); to Chlamydini by Beu and Darragh (2001); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
