Taxonomy
Shikamaia was named by Ozaki (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m P Guad-l]. Its type is Shikamaia akasakaensis.

It was assigned to Alatoconchidae by Carter (1990); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Alatoconchinae by Yancey and Ozaki (1986) and Asato et al. (2017).
