S. Bajpai et al. 2010 | Dugongine sirenian that differs from the
closely related, approximately contemporary, and possibly sympatric form Bharatisiren kachchhensis in having a cylindrical-appearing braincase with rounded dorsolateral margins that slope away from the temporal crests; temporal crests that are set close to the midline and even touching, rather than set widely apart at the edges of the skull roof; frontals that broaden less in an anterior direction; a supra - orbital process whose lateral margin is convex in dorsal view, without an indentation [c. 44(0)], and whose dorsal surface is convex; a rostral deflection approximately twice as great; and a premaxillary symphysis forming a prominent boss [c. 10(1)]. Kutchisiren cylindrica differs from the earlier species Bharatisiren indica in having a concave and sloping frontal roof [c. 42(1)]; an unindented supraorbital process [c. 44(0)]; a supraoccipital that is not narrowed ventrally [c. 64(1)]; and a lozenge-shaped cross section of the tusk [c. 141 (2)]. |
