Cypraea helvola was named by Linnaeus (1758) [m. kosnik taxon no: 10475]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Erosaria (Ravitrona) helvola by Schilder (1937) and MacNeil (1960); it was recombined as Erosaria (Erosaria) helvola by Ladd and Hoffmeister (1945); it was recombined as Cypraea (Erosaria) helvola by Okutaini (2000); it was misspelled as Cypraea helveola by Barnard (1962) and Wilson (2002); it was recombined as Erosaria helvola by Taki (1951) and Meyer (2004).
