Mackinnonia corrugata

Taxonomy
Leptostega corrugata was named by Bengtson et al. (1990) [Leptostega? corrugata Runnegar in Bengston, Conway Morris, Cooper, Jell & Runnegar 1990]. Its type specimen is SAMP 29006, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is L1849, L1748, L1763C - Curramulka Quarry, which is in an Atdabanian carbonate limestone in the Parara Formation of Australia.

It was synonymized subjectively with Mackinnonia plicata by Parkhaev (2001) and Parkhaev (2005); it was recombined as Mackinnonia corrugata by Topper et al. (2009) and Wagner (2023).

T. P. Topper et al. 2009The internal moulds are cap-shaped and bilaterally symmetrical, evenly expanding from the apex to the aperture. The internal moulds are moderately laterally compressed (Fig. 9F-G) displaying an ornament of three to five prominent rugae with alternating furrows (Fig. 9A, D, G). The rugae and furrows expand in width towards the anterior of the mould (Fig. 9A, D). The internal moulds are ornamented with a polygonal pattern of shallow depressions that is typically well developed on the rugae (Fig. 9C, E). The apex is inclined towards the posterior and the protoconch is smooth (Fig. 9B).
