Villicumia canteraensis

Taxonomy
Villicumia canteraensis was named by Sanchez (1999). Its type specimen is CEGH-UNC 16152a, a shell (left valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is south side of the Quebrada La Pola, Eastern flank of Sierra de Villicum, which is in a Caradoc marine conglomerate in the La Cantera Formation of Argentina.

Sanchez 1999Rounded shell with anterior extremity slightly projected and posterior margin rounded; anterodorsal margin arched towards shell body, posterodorsal margin arched outward of shell body; anterodorsal and posterodorsal margins meeting with angle of about 115 degrees; umbo placed at anterior half of valve, prosogyrate; chevroned teeth, small in subumbonal region, enlarging towards hinge extremities; few small posterior teeth overlap first anterior teeth in the subumbonal region (Figs. 2.6, 2.7, 4.1); from umbo towards hinge extremities, chevrons modify by progressive enlargement and inclination of dorsal branch; distally, teeth become pendent, near vertical; successive changes and increasing size of anterior and posterior teeth are similar, but tooth number differs: 11 anterior and 17 posterior; anterior adductor scar rounded, greater, and stronger than posterior adductor scar; pallial line not preserved.
