Vulsella was named by Ršding (1798) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Vulsellidae by Eames (1951); to Malleidae by Vokes (1980) and Lamprell and Healy (1998); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
