Taxonomy
Cardiola was named by Broderip (1839) [Cardiola Broderip in Murchison 1839 Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u C Tour Sepkoski's reference number: 673]. It is the type genus of Cardioloidea.

It was assigned to Cardiolinae by Vokes (1980); to Praecardioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cardiolidae by Kříž (2007) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
