Zygochlamys was named by Ihering (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Chlamys (Zygochlamys) by Parodiz (1996).

It was assigned to Pectinidae by Chiesa et al. (1995); to Chlamys by Parodiz (1996); to Chlamydini by Beu and Darragh (2001); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
