Taxonomy
Promytilus cancellatus was named by Maxwell (1964). Its type specimen is UQ F42896 and is a mold. Its type locality is UQ L2068, Yarrol, which is in a Sakmarian marine siliciclastic in the Burnett Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Volsellina cancellatus by Waterhouse (1987).
