Lyrodesma was named by Conrad (1841) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 91]. It is not extant. Its type is Lyrodesma planum.
It was assigned to Modiomorphoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lyrodesmatidae by Harrison and Harrison (1975), Vokes (1980) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
