Taxonomy
Modiomorpha was named by Hall and Whitfield (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl P l]. Its type is Pterinea concentrica. It is the type genus of Modiomorphidae, Modiomorphinae.

It was assigned to Modiolopsidae by Isberg (1934); to Modiomorphidae by Cox et al. (1969) and Vokes (1980); to Modiomorphinae by Liljedahl (1994); and to Modiomorphoida by Sepkoski (2002).
