Taxonomy
Tapirus (Helicotapirus) lundeliusi was named by Hulbert (2010). Its type specimen is UF 160715, a partial skeleton (partial young adult skeleton with cranium, mandible, vertebrae, ribs, sternebrae, and fore- and hindlimb elements), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Haile 7C, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Florida.
