Taxonomy
Ichthyosaurus trigonodon was named by Theodori (1843) [Species appears to have been originally assigned to a different taxon, and perhaps recombined in this way by Lydekker (1889), but original generic assignment not clear in this work.].

It was recombined as Temnodontosaurus trigonodon by von Theodori (1843), Maisch and Matzke (2000), McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010), Martin et al. (2012) and Ji et al. (2016).
