Taxonomy
Chione chiriquiensis was named by Olsson (1922) [TYPE SPECIMEN: Syntype]. Its type specimen is PRI 21326, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Water Cay [Cayo Agua Fm], which is in a Piacenzian transition zone/lower shoreface sandstone in the Cayo Agua Formation of Panama.
It was recombined as Lirophora (Lirophora) chiriquiensis by Hendy et al. (2008).
