Plesiosaurus costatus
Taxonomy
Plesiosaurus costatus was named by Owen (1840). Its type specimen is BRSMG Cb 2457 (now destroyed), a set of vertebrae (cervical vertebra), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rhaetic Bone Bed, Aust Cliff, which is in a Rhaetian coastal conglomerate in the Westbury Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Rhomaleosaurus costatus by Persson (1963).
