Agonisca was named by Fleming (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi Sepkoski's reference number: 562]. Its type is Agonisca corbiensis.

It was assigned to Praegoniinae by Fleming (1963); to Trigonioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Myophoriidae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
