Caledogonia was named by Freneix and Avias (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-u Tr Nori-l Sepkoski's reference number: 562]. Its type is Caledogonia globosa.

It was assigned to Trigonioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Myophoriidae by Freneix and Avias (1977) and Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
