Eubrontes lyellii
Taxonomy
Ornithoidichnites lyellii was named by Hitchcock (1843). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is AC 1/1, 1/7, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Lily Pond Quarry, Gill, which is in a Hettangian fluvial-lacustrine siltstone/sandstone in the Turners Falls Formation of Massachusetts. It is the type species of Fulicopus.
It was recombined as Fulicopus lyellianus by Hitchcock (1845), Hay (1902), Lull (1904) and Hay (1930); it was recombined as Aethyopus lyellianus by Hitchcock (1848) and Warren (1854); it was recombined as Amblonyx lyellianus by Hitchcock (1858), Hitchcock (1871), Hitchcock (1889), Lyman (1894) and Hitchcock (1898); it was synonymized subjectively with Sauropus barrattii by Lull (1915), Lull (1953), Kuhn (1963) and Haubold (1971); it was recombined as Eubrontes lyellii by Rainforth (2007).
