Taxonomy
Ptychites besnosovi was named by Shevyrev (1995). Its type specimen is PIN 1477/618 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bugunzha River, Ptychites-Flexoptychites beds (Beznosov coll), which is in a Pelsonian marine carbonate in the Acheshbok Formation of the Russian Federation.
