Taxonomy
Ammonites sandlingensis was named by Hauer (1849). It is not extant. It is the type species of Discotropites.

It was recombined as Discotropites sandlingensis by Hyatt and Smith (1905), Smith (1927), Spath (1951) and Tozer (1994).
