Acorylus was named by Olsson and Harbison (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Tellinidae by Todd (2001); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
