Taxonomy
Aligena was named by Lea (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R]. It is extant. Its type is Aligena striata.

It was assigned to Leptonidae by Glenn (1904); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); to Kelliidae by Moore (1992), Wienrich (1999) and Marquet (2005); and to Lasaeidae by Ward and Blackwelder (1987) and Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
