Taxonomy
Calclyra spathulata was named by Wernlund (1977). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is holotype TTU-N09/85, paratypes TTU-N09/86-91 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pine Springs area, Guadalupe Mountains, which is in a Capitanian basinal (carbonate) floatstone in the Bell Canyon Formation of Texas.

Wernlund 1977Sclerite in the form of a lyre, small, slight to moderately arched along neck and central shaft axis; arching concentrated just below the line formed by the tops of the perforations; neck equal up to 1/3 of total length, end of neck slightly inflated; central shaft moderately long; upper portion short, thin and nearly even. lower portion long and gradually expanding toward arms downward; arms sloping moderately out from junction with neck, curving broadly along line formed by tops of perforations, then extending nearly straight to join with end of shaft; lower periphery is broadly pointed downward.
