Azorinus was named by Récluz (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Tellinidae by Marasti (1973); to Solecurtinae by Vokes (1980); to Solecurtidae by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992) and Wienrich (1999); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
