Pseudocorbula emerita was named by Reed (1929). It is not extant. It is the type species of Leptoterraia.
It was recombined as Leptoterraia emerita by Beurlen (1954); it was recombined as Cowperesia emerita by Mendes (1952), David et al. (2011), Simões et al. (2015) and Simões et al. (2017).
