Blairella was named by Miller and Gurley (1896) [Sepkoski's age data: C l]. Its type is Blairella crassimarginata.

It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Carditacea by Cox et al. (1969) and Özdikmen (2006).
