Borniola was named by Iredale (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Kelliidae by Vokes (1980); to Erycinidae by Beu et al. (1990); to Galeommatidae by Lamprell and Healy (1998); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
